United States: source preparation

What this shows

Official Census Bureau resident counts on April 1, 2020 and April 1, 2010, and the published one-decimal change. Table 2 and Table E reconcile for all 50 states and DC. Alaska and Hawaii are included. These are census counts, not annual estimates or ACS survey estimates.

What it does not show

This is not US map coverage, election coverage or current law. US map expansion remains held. Mexico and other US territories are outside this phase. Canadian 2021 and American 2020 counts are different periods: no direct cross-border ratio is offered. Counts of residents are not apportionment populations or votes.

Primary source citations

Boundaries prepared from official 1:500,000 cartographic files in NAD83, preserving their original vertices and FIPS. They are not cadastral surveys, counties, congressional districts or municipalities. 2020 geometry is paired with 2020 counts; 2024 geometry is inventoried separately. No guessed boundary crosswalk is used.

The original Census metadata permits use with acknowledgement to the U.S. Census Bureau and restricts display to 1:500,000 or smaller scales. It prohibits using these generalized files for area/perimeter analysis, geocoding addresses or precise geographic relationships. Small offshore areas, holes and discontiguous parts may be absent from the publisher's generalized source; preserving its vertices does not restore detailed TIGER/Line coverage.

Existing Canadian source rights remain separate. A Census source does not grant redistribution rights for Elections Canada. Current-law authorization, execution holds, observed executions, US federal and military rules, and Canada's federal rule have not been verified here.
